Calumet is my latest shawl/scarf, made lacy and light especially for the upcoming spring. It is worked sideways with the lace border knitted in as you go and the ruffles are picked up and knitted after the body of the shawl.
I used a little less than 2 skeins of Shibui sock in the awesome colorway 'Dragonfly', and this was the first time I worked with this yarn. All I can say to convince you to consider it in the future is that I fell in love with it, for both the quality and the colors of it. It will be a yarn I will keep in my stash from now on, and the colors are so beautiful I can't wait to get my hands on more... but I still have to battle my current stash to the point of extinction!
As for the project itself, it is fast and simply to knit, with a lace that is easily memorized after just a couple repeats. It makes a fun TV knit, when you want something more than plain stockinette or garter stitch, but not an overly complicated project. It uses a little less that 400 yards of fingering weight yarn, so it is also perfect for this precious skein of sock yarn we all keep in our stash somewhere! It is also easy to modify to your own taste for the size and my lucky guess would be that it can adapt well to a different yarn weight as well.
The scarf itself is an elegant and feminine accessory, the kind of knit I will endlessly throw over a spring top to dress my busy mom jeans-and-T-shirt outfit or for the summer over my bare shoulders when I wear a summer dress.
